Update on Recent Activity

Hello! Sorry for the lack of updates since September. (It feels way longer than 3 months.) I've been posting almost absolutely daily on my Tumblr which can be found: HERE. I have also been uploading at my Deviantart over HERE!

I've been finding convenience posting on tumblr since it's quite quick for pictures. Maybe I'll dump some of the recent Tumblr stuff onto here when I find the time.

Painting wips

Just some stuff trying out some new colours than I usually do and stuff.

Flash Roda

I thought I was going to get away from Flash on the weekend. But then I had wanted to try to clean up in flash and do some colour just because I understand how it's done now. Took a really old drawing/design of him and just went over..

Hey so...

After working in flash for so long in a studio I think it felt pretty nice to work digitally where you actually drew... again. So uh. Just a doodle. Haven't posted for a while. Haha.

Thinker

Work in progress. I actually went through a lot of different versions to get to this. It was mostly experimental work. Probably will finish it up tomorrow... and fix it...

Thoughts

Will probably make this nicer later. Just a thing I wanted to do before I went to sleep.

Nothing really exciting. Still working on his ex-girlfriend. Blonde this time and more friendly like. Maybe Roda has a thing for blondes.

Ex-girlfriend

A friend and I recently decided that Roda likes girls, too. This one drawing was for jokes. Not to mention I was half asleep drawing this (again I forgot how to draw for a while). She's still under development. Expect her to pop up at least once in the Airborne Pilots comic/etc.

Avoiding Glances

Just wanted to doodle. Drawing when you have a coming head ache and when you're almost half asleep is interesting. Everything goes wonky, haha.

RAVEN - Rook's plane

This is concept stuff for Meyson's plane. It's based off a Spitfire IA X4036. I'm just getting familiar with the plane first then I'll be off to exaggerating it a bit more later. So it doesn't just look like a plane.

I'm finding it harder to draw digitally today. I'll probably contiue on paper tomorrow.

Pilots - exploration

I'm trying to figure out how to make the streamline look a little bit broken, so there'll be wrinkles but not too much that'll it'll revert to my old style. And not so less that it's originally how I re-designed them. Still trying to figure it out but getting there slowly. I'm going to have to do more studies for wrinkles first... too.

Anyways, there's about 4-5 characters missing and then having to finish up the two sketched ones. These are more like doodles that I did today.

Here's something I whipped up today. Might finish it later. But wanted to try something new and tried a new technique.

 I'll be designing them into three characters and finish them up like I did for the "Super Team!" picture that I did earlier.

Dan Portrait wip

My friend came over for a couple of days, so I hadn't been able to work on this until "tonight". I had thought I was going to like this at first but I'm becoming more and more displeased with it as it's coming along. At this point I'm not even sure if I am interested in it enough to finish up later.

There's a lot of things wrong with the structure that's not making it strong enough that I feel confident to push along. Might want to scrap and just start again. It's disappointing though. Hmm.

Dan Portrait Speedpaint

I watched Flyboys the other day, and I absolutely love the music (as well as the movie. Dogfights with biplanes make me nervous. They're so vulnerable. Specially those German planes attacking the French). The music is wonderfully composed to fit the theme of.. well aviation. So, I wanted to paint another portrait.  A little more "vintage-y?"

This is Dan, again. Whoops for face anatomy, I will fixing it as I go along. I'm trying to get the feeling of everything at this moment. I'll work a good chunk on it again tomorrow.

Random Dan-Roda Speedpaints

I should have thought of more structure before I did this. Don't you also hate when you find out you've been working on the wrong layer all along? And in the end I decided to stay on that layer. So I couldn't do any/much undos here.... Ahhh.

Aside from all that. I did discover a faster way to get things done. So I'll be trying more of this technique later. Maybe it's 'cause I started on paper... Hmm

"Sooo...."

LiHua (Lily) and Rita are room buddies and super close! They tend to talk about their problems to each other.

Also, it was a nice change starting this painting, with all the cel-shading and stuff that's been going on.

"Pssst, I'm going to tell you a Secret"

This coming Saturday will be the birthday of one of my characters (the one on the left). It's kind of an "anniversary" of how long I've had him for.

Since I've been working on improving my linework, I haven't done much of the painting side. My initial goal was to learn another painting style but in the end I think I'm going back to my old processes. I did learn, though, that if I did work on line-work  it's mostly going to be cel-shaded. If I were to work on my painting, it would be more of the colours and such. I'm having a hard time trying to put the two together, so I guess the result of it would be a mixture of these.

SUPER TEAM!

Finally finished the group of characters.
Might do more with them later.

But, it was fun working on them! I think I learned some new things for cel-shading, lineart and colour choices. So that was good.

Super Team! and Haircuts

Some progress on SuperTeam!. I didn't get to finish today, though. Had a lot of things to do for Mother's Day.

Have the colours down for the twins. Might do a little colour balance.. but I like the colours so far..








I was curious on that the other two (Roda and Meyson) would probably look with shorter hair (which would be slightly more acceptable in any given air force vs. their "normal" length hair styles).

I kind of like it. I don't know. Maybe part way of the comic everyone drastically needs to cut their hair. That'd be amusing.

Super Team! Progress

Managed to clean up three of them after going out of the house for a while. Probably will change the colours later; just playing around.

Depending on how mother's day goes tomorrow, might be able to finish this up by then.

Super Team!

I wanted to do something before I slept.
I drew this without thinking of overall design much...so three of the boys look very close to each other.

Two of them will be twins, though.

Will be finishing it up tomorrow!

Church

I kind of, honestly, dislike how it turned out. A lot of the colours that I liked when I started it are kind of subdued and doesn't contrast as much as it used to.

I'm going to leave it for a while and try to tweak it again later.

Speedpaint wip & Pilots Updates

I did this as a warmup today. Mostly playing around with a different program.














This was done as a speedpaint, mostly. I haven't done a painterly-thing for a while now so I figured I should do something. I also used a different technique that I saw someone do so tried to do a different process. I really dislike where it's at right now. I'll fix it up later, hopefully--or start over new...





These are some logos for the Redstar project. Still in development. Might have gold wings for it in the end.
















This is Evelyn with her Armadillo, Illo. Her callsign at the moment is TECH but may change. She'll also be a Crew Chief.

ZEALOT & PRINCE

A friend and I discussed codenames for the crew of our Redstar☆Pilots after watching Top Gun (1986) today. It's hard to top the codenames in Top Gun. Haha. So far the list of callsigns goes:

- Meyson Grant  "ZEALOT"
Daniel and Roda call him Meyson and May.
-TaeWoo Jung  "RODRIC"
Meyson and Dan call him Roda. (Which is the girl form of the name Rodric).
- Daniel Skyes  "PRINCE"
Roda and Meyson calls Daniel Dan.
- Marc Davis  "SANDMAN"
- Evelyn Jones  "TECH"
- Bianca _____  "BEE"
- Brooke _____ " BRAVO"






My friend and I also had a discussion on changing Dan's hair. So it more less will be the first one on the left and later on it'll be shorter. So...

Church wip and Skyes

First to break the streak of pilots..
I wanted to do a different style so I'm working on this. It's interesting so far, I think. Thinking differently, that's for sure.

It's definitely way faster than the usual layouts I do.














My comic-partner still doesn't feel confident enough for Dan, so still exploring him I guess. The scar will probably be taken off and will come later in the story, most likely.

Daniel, Look at Those Two

Bianca means Roda and Meyson. Ha. These two are meant to be a set with the Roda and Meyson redesign. I'm still waiting on my friend's approval on Bianca. Bianca's original concept was done by my friend, Jeremy.

Misconceptions?

Originally, I hadn't thought of putting these four together. But for the fun of it, I was curious on what it'd look like and this is what happened.

It kind of makes sense actually. If you look at it, there's kind of a story going on, more so if you know of the characters relationships with each other.

Bianca (woman in middle) is Daniel's co-pilot.

Redstar☆Pilots - Places Concept Sketches

Some quick sketches to get a feeling of the settings for Redstar☆Pilots . I need to make things a bit more "vintage-y" to fit with the "uniform" of the characters. That being said, the planes may undergo a little bit of redesign  and might have a mixture between the bi-planes and modern ones like the F-16. I'll see. Might throw in something like a MiG-21 and get away with it a little.

It's also in isometric view so that I can get an idea where everything would be in the room.

The rooms are also based off of some military schooling dorms--where two rooms are conjoined by a toilet and shower area, of course separated by doors on either side. It's also slightly based off a dorm room I stayed at in a marine biology research centre.

So basically, if all doors were unlocked, you could enter one dorm and come out another by the main entrance.

Meyson and Roda share a room that will be connected to Daniel with Bianca's (new character that I haven't posted on this blog yet) room.
                                                     


The common room is where everybody within their sectors can relax and meet each other and chill out/etc. Think of Harry Potter when the houses have their own set of couches and fireplace.

The super carriers will be another part of the universe (out on the ocean of course) that will house a fleet of planes. And a city, possibly.









































We haven't actually decided who's office this is either. It may be Marc Davis'

Something I finished up today. I want to do another one tomorrow but I'm not sure what of. I also wanted to try a new colouring style since I don't do the whole cel-shading thing much. But it's a nice change I think.
