African Wedding (done)

Probably will do some minor adjustments for the skin.
I'm still trying to work with golden tones to bring more life to the skin (as I'm not experienced with this skin tone for painting yet..)

Pirates process

Chronological order. Hopefully I can fix up the fixes that I need to do by thursday.

African Wedding

I liked the shape of some of the traditional African clothing. I looked into dashiki and then the ones used in weddings. I thought it was quite nice when the colour schemes were bright and coordinated for the couple wearing the traditional garments.

It's not finished yet! Obviously. Lots of things to fix. I'm so behind schedule!

Roda speedpaint

Had been craving for some speed painting this week. Tried out a different method this time and the style of the stroke. Also wanted to try another colour palette for skin I made up.

Monster Friends

Wanted to do another style and something "cute".

The two birds don't have names but for everyone else it's (from top to bottom) Jim, Tim, Jill, Jimmy.

Band People

In the end, I decided to change the colours so that they'd work much better together.

Meyson Face #3

Just added a little tad bit more on this. (I seem to do that when I'm bored or in between working on different projects) for a couple of mins.

Random practice

Something I did yesterday for practice. 15-20 mins I think.

Umi Redesign

Finished up the guitarists' redesign today. Singer's all that left, I guess.
The more I work on this, the more I dislike it, too. Ha!

Saki and Daisuke Redesign

Finished up Saki today (bass player). He has a warwick bass. Two more to go!
(Rather, a re-do of one since I lost the data on the singer earlier this week...) I also have to rethink some things, like changing the colour of the background since it's hard to see Saki's shoes clearly.

This is the older design.

Daisuke Redesign

I actually had another one, prior to finishing this one but I lost that data. So.. Yeah. This is a redesign of him. Might change it a little tiny bit later.

And for the artist and his wife, I was also thinking to maybe take out their legs. In the previous version, they were coming out of the shape behind them.

Rockers - wips

Some work in progress. I'm not sure if I like this enough to actually finish it and make any use of it. I would like to change the guitarist pose though. It's a bit difficult to read her legs at this point.

Meyson Face #2

Just an update.
Not much added actually but...
I think he looks a bit feminine--whoops!
Roda would kill for a photo of this that he can keep in his back pocket. Ha.

Here is the old one just for comparison's sake.

The Artist

Today, I came up with an idea I possibly might want to storyboard (17 panels) and two or three possibly simple layouts to accompany it. These are some sketches for the concept. I still haven't decided what the artist and his beloved will look like but it's leaning towards the coloured image I think.

Meyson Face

Did some speed paint thing. Started first as a doodle I did 5 mins before having to go to life drawing "last night" (considering it's 3:43 am).

I like them for their own reasons. One more a more realistic feel and the other short haired/more graphic Meyson.

Will probably add to it later.

Tim and Jim

I haven't drawn for myself much lately.
This is Tim and Jim.

Red Star Pilots - Animatic WIP

Red Star Pilots Animatic - WIP from Katherine Dela Cruz on Vimeo.

Normally I don't post animation/animatics on this blog because I don't feel like they're worth watching (haha, lack of confidence!) But I'd like to show this to the helpful people who have lent me their voice talents without having to make them download the file off a server again. Thank you, Forrest and Scurvy! I like Meyson's new take in the first part as well. Please work with me more in the future.

This should be obvious that it's still a w.i.p..

Layouts dump - Trains and Pilots

Almost done. It was supposed to be done, but I have to go back and fix the structure of some parts and add more contrast/metal glints/etc.

--------------------

Speaking of fixes, it's slightly annoying (but by all means it is my bad for not catching it before) when I find out parts that aren't working in a layout. Now it could be a stylistic thing. But when the shots aren't on model to each other, then it's a little bit of a problem.

It's always the one that I try to pass by without giving it much attention. (Haha, the ceiling structures in my train one. Same thing but fixed it last minute). I think this was one of the harder shots. My fault in this was thinking of the background after the plane was built.

Train Station - colour wip #2

This is the 2nd pass of colour. I'm estimating maybe another good 3 hours.

Master shot - Red Star Pilots

Something I finished up tonight. I still need to adjust the brightness in places. It's showing up rather dark in the levels in photoshop, which will be a problem in print later on. (I avoided trying to get to dark, though! Hmm.) I wanted to try a different colouring style.

I thought a little bit of the cartoons of the 60s. Been looking at those lately.

Train Station Layout Colour WIP

Some work in progress. I'm hoping it'll be under 4 more hours to finish this up, but I doubt it. Ahhh.
